Firearm Safety Fundamentals
THIS COURSE IS FOR FULFILLING LEGALLY MANDATED REQUIREMENTS
Prerequisite: None Length: 4 hrs. (class only-no live fire)
A thorough course in the safe ownership, storage and handling of all firearm types and the ammunition they fire. Topics discussed include the 4 fundamental rules of gun safety, rules for using firearms, law overview of firearm possession and self-protection, and interaction with law enforcement. Information provided is designed to ensure the safety of all those who own or encounter others with firearms. This course meets court criterion for mandated firearm safety training. Cost includes all materials.
Handgun Fundamentals for Protection
Prerequisite: None Length: 8 hrs. (class & range)
All the material in the Firearm Safety Fundamentals course plus a thorough introduction to firearm handling and shooting skills for those who wish to use a handgun for personal protection. This course is designed to acquaint the student with their pistols and to understand how to safely handle, operate and use them in a self-defense situation. Multiple drills on target from varying distances are employed. Multiple attackers, rapid shooting and moving targets are addressed. In addition, safe pistol storage, law overview and other training opportunities are discussed and demonstrated. Student may provide firearm and ammunition, or ACG will provide equipment upon request.
Shotgun Fundamentals for Protection
Prerequisite: None Length: 8 hrs. (class & range)
A thorough introduction to firearm safety, handling, and shooting skills for those who wish to use a shotgun for personal protection. This course is designed to acquaint the student with their particular model and to understand how to safely handle and operate shotguns plus the ammunition they fire. Multiple drills on target from varying distances are employed. Multiple attackers and rapid shooting are addressed. In addition, safe storage, law overview and other training opportunities are discussed and demonstrated. Student may provide firearm and ammunition, or ACG will provide equipment upon request.
Protective Handgun Carry Fundamentals
Prerequisite: Handgun Fundamentals for Protection or similar training/experience
Length: Day #1: 8 hrs. (range) Day #2: 6 hrs. (class)
A very thorough course in the use of the handgun for self-defense. Designed for those who have some experience or previous training and know they want to learn to responsibly and effectively carry and employ the handgun for protection. Course begins with fundamentals of gun safety and the theory of defensive handguns, the mindset of the armed citizen and the assailant, Georgia firearms and use of force laws, and the licensing, philosophy and methods of concealed carry. Practical techniques for men and women to reduce the likelihood of victimization are introduced. Psychology and physiology of the body reacting to stress is also studied. Familiarization with gun types, parts, actions and the ammunition they fire. Proper grip, stances, gun positions and the 4-step draw. Drills and skills of proper sight alignment, gun handling, trigger reset, magazine changes, loading, unloading and clearing malfunctions. How to interact with
police on the scene, legal and social aftermath of a shooting, self-defense insurance and legal resources are also discussed.
Extensive range time includes range rules and commands, dry and live fire exercises, proper aim and marksmanship drills, draw from concealment to engage targets with multiple shots, shooting and moving, multiple targets, multiple moving targets and the proper use of cover. Included is an introduction to close-quarters drills. Student may provide firearm and ammunition, or ACG will provide equipment upon request.
Advanced Protective Handgun Carry
Prerequisite: Protective Handgun Carry Fundamentals or similar professional training
Length: Day #1: 8 hrs. (class & range) Day #2: 8 hrs. (range)
Review and practice of the knowledge, skills and drills from Protective Handgun Carry Fundamentals begins this very intensive training. A 2-day immersion in the philosophy and techniques of modern defensive gun fighting. Techniques include high speed trigger control, multiple attacker scenarios, shooting from cover/concealment and around obstacles, extensive drills with many patterns of movement, attacks from various angles, 0-5 feet engagement, moving and reactive targets and tactical engagement. A wide assortment of shooting positions are practiced from standing, running, sitting, kneeling, prone and others. Dominant and off-hand shooting, drawing, reloading and malfunction clearing skills are employed.
Effective open-hand defensive skills are learned and used in conjunction with the handgun. With class input, drills are developed to fit students lifestyle and circumstances. How to identify high-risk behavior, gun retention techniques, using a gun as an impact weapon, avoid and disarm an assailant and hold them at bay, plus ways to survive a carjacking are added.
Since many times we are with or around others, couples and partner drills are exercised in real-life scenarios such as the street, restaurant or a bank. Student may provide firearm and ammunition, or ACG will provide equipment upon request.
Concealed Carry Permits, Weapons, Self-Defense & the Law

This course is included in the Protective Handgun Carry Fundamentals course listed above. Answered are questions on the process and expense of obtaining a Georgia Weapons License, concealed carry permits from states that issue to non-residents, the training required in each state and the reciprocity each license has in other states. Though you can legally carry a gun, you generally may be denied carry of other weapons in different jurisdictions; which weapons and where you can and can’t carry any weapon, concealed or otherwise.
Under which circumstances and at what point are you able to respond with deadly force, can you defend others, the Castle Doctrine, Duty to Retreat and the Reasonable Man Doctrine are all discussed. Legal aftermath of a shooting, arrest, charges and trial. Rules of criminal and civil law pertaining to self-defense encounters. Organizations, legal resources and liability insurance for the armed citizen. This course is a necessity if taking on the responsibility of carrying a concealed weapon or using a gun for self-protection. ACG provides program materials.
